The Holly and the Ivy

Now in its tenth triumphant year!Award winning Middle Ground Theatre Company bring you their highly acclaimed production of The Holly amp; the Ivy.Set in a Norfolk vicarage on Christmas Eve 1947, the vicars family gather for the festive season. Peace and goodwill radiates from the warm-hearted elderly vicar, cared for by his young daughter. But with the arrival of two irritable aunts and an errant daughter the emotional veneer is peeled away. As skeletons tumble from closets and stones are turned over, family members are forced to confront their regrets and secret anxieties. Even the lovable vicar is not immune to the stresses and strains of a normal family Christmas. This atmospheric and absorbing human story, which stars that doyen of Welsh actors Philip Madoc along with Tom Butcher (The Bill / Doctors), Zoie Kennedy (The Royal) and Corrinne Wicks (Doctors), is a perfect winter warmer for the festive season.A Guardian and Times Theatre Critics ChoiceProfoundly moving marvellous whatsonstage.com

This great composer is often known as the Father of classical music and was a great influence on both Mozart and Beethoven and on many of the composers who followed in the wake of his extraordinary achievement. It is fitting that we should start the programme with his great contemporary Mozarts Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, which will be followed by one of Englands most popular musicians, Natalie Clien, performing the Haydn Cello Concerto. In the second half we will have a performance of Franz Schuberts Five German Dances, which will then be followed by Haydns Farewell Symphony, a great favourite since it was composed in 1772.Subscriptions open 19 June 2008.
